Eriks Gondolen has a unique location 36 meters high above Slussen, since its opening in 1994 it has become an institution amongst Stockholmers and tourists alike. The restaurant offers wonderful views over the sea-approach and Djurgården to the East and Slussen below and the Old Town and the City centre just North, in summertime Gondolen has 150 seats outside on the terrace however be aware that you are situated 11 floors up and that even on the warmest day Stockholm can be a bit windy, although the restaurant has excellent shades and is also equipped with heaters.
Food at Gondolen is delicious, the much awarded Erik Lallerstedt no longer runs the daily business at Gondolen but as a owner he still influences the high quality kitchen that his name has become synonymous with. The fare is a mixture of classical Swedish dishes and an international fare, service is excellent and although the setting is magnificent the food is definitely makes the views justice. The interior might not be the most exciting but to this view little investment of interior is needed, Gondolen has the usual fine dining requisites with starched linen and the service is utterly professional.
The long bar is popular with young and trendy Stockholmers and has for long been one of the places to go for an elegant after-work, however; as in all dynamic cities the in-places tend to change frequently but in this case the bar at Gondolen has the most magnificent view over Stockholm so it is well worth a visit even if its hip-factor seems to have cooled down the last years. You can sip the most wonderful cocktails here whilst sitting in the window or in the black leather chairs just indulging the breathtaking view. The clientele at Gondolen is a refreshing mixture of businessmen, out-of-towners and Stockholmers, a broad spectrum that you normally do not find in the more exclusive gastronomic corners of Stockholm.
